At the end of our Tanzanian trip, we were able to meet the child that my husband sponsors through Compassion International. It was a truly meaningful event.

Back in 2005 I was able to meet the girl that I sponsor through the same organization. Fortunately she and her family (as well as everyone I worked with in Jacmel at the Hands and Feet Project) all survived the 2010 massive earthquake.

If you’re looking for a way to sponsor and support a child, Compassion makes it easy. It’s an incredible investment to make in a little one’s life, and then when you travel you can plan to meet them. It’s an incredible opportunity to make a difference in this world!

Bonjour, it’s Maria here! On our honeymoon in Tanzania (Tanzanie in French, and our tour guide and company spoke French with us) we had action-packed safari adventures. I was filled with glee to see green; not only in the lush gardens and plants around us, but also in the form of recycling bins like this one!

Not only that, the roads through the Serengeti are still not paved in order to be more animal and eco-friendly. Bien joue Tanzanie!

Maria was married this year to her love at LA’s green event space, the Smog Shoppe in the Culver City area.
It was a fun and exquisite time, and they had a second ceremony in France. Felicitations Maria!

gLg is jetting back into the blogosphere!

Last summer Maria went with a group of doctors, dentists, nurses and other volunteers to Brazil. Boating down the Solimões River and looking after families who had endured a recent flood was an incredible and moving adventure.

Maria just returned from visiting family in British Columbia, Canada. She was hiking through Elk Falls and saw a plastic bottle bobbing in a little cove. Her first attempt at cornering and lifting up the bottle failed, but finally she reached it and was able to bring it to a recycling bin. It was something small, but it reminds us that you can Go Live Give wherever you are, however you can!

Maria is leaving for Brazil this Saturday. She is volunteering with a group of dentists who will be taking care of families up the Amazon. They will also be delivering medical supplies. More about that soon!

Fuel Poster
Maria here, I was able to be a part of the outdoor movie screening of Fuel, playing now in Los Angeles.

Fuel is a vital, superbly assembled documentary that presents an insightful overview of America’s troubled relationship with oil and how alternative and sustainable energies can reduce our country’s — and the world’s — addictive dependence on fossil fuels.”
– Gary Goldstein, Los Angeles Times

I was able to meet with the film’s director Josh Tickell, who spent 11 years crossing the country in his vegetable oil-powered “Veggie Van,” promoting biofuels. This is just one of the myriad things this amazing man has delved into in order to learn about the way we glean energy. Ultimately, this movie documents his journey and passion for promoting the responsible use of the natural resources we have been given. I also was able to meet Peter Fonda, woo hoo!
Me with Peter Fonda

Do see this movie! Running time: 1 hour, 51 minutes. At AMC’s Loews Broadway 4, 1441 Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica. (310) 458-6232. Coming soon to Washington and Hawaii

Kim and I have attended two fun Opportunity Green events. First, we went to the Architecture and Design museum on Wilshire to attend the 367 event, an after-work gathering for young green-minded professionals. Next we enjoyed the Beauty and Sustainability evening at Lululemon on Beverly Blvd. We learned so much and met some incredible people!
